Sunday Oliseh |
Newly employed Super Eagles manager Sunday Oliseh may
encounter a slight delay to be unveiled as Nigeria coach on Wednesday as
planned, due to the bureaucratic paper work that needs to be carried out.
40 year-old Oliseh arrived in Abuja from Europe on
Tuesday evening hoping for the signing and unveiling ceremony at the National
Stadium.
Meanwhile, the National Sports Commission came with the
big blow on Monday after saying that it had not been officially informed about
the sack of former coach Stephen Keshi by the Nigeria Football Federation and
its intention to hire Oliseh.
Goal learnt on Tuesday that the NFF has sent a formal
notice of disengagement of the services of Keshi to the NSC as well as the new
hiring.
In turn, the NSC has written to the Presidency informing
it of the changes while seeking permission to go ahead in line with the
Public Procurement law.
“The Nigeria Football Federation has informed the
National Sports Commission through a written letter officially [on Tuesday]
about the sack of former Super Eagles Chief Coach Stephen Keshi and their
intention and plans to engage former Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh as the
new Super Eagles Chief Coach,” a source said.
“As it is now the Commission would write informing the
Presidency officially of the sack of Stephen Keshi and the plans of the NFF to
appoint Sunday Oliseh as the Super Eagles’ new Chief Coach [on Wednesday].
‘So until the Presidency replies [the NSC] letter before
the NFF could be authorized to go ahead with the appointment and unveiling of
Sunday Oliseh as Eagles new Chief Coach,” the NSC source said.
While he didn’t give confirmation about the imminent
delay in the unveiling, NFF president Amaju Pinnick confirmed Oliseh’s
arrival in Abuja and the plans to hire him may go unhindered.
"I want to confirm to you that we are on
course with Oliseh's contract. As I speak to you, I can inform you that he has
arrived Nigeria and will be meeting with the Technical Committee, but what I
cannot confirm to you now is whether he will be unveiled,” Pinnick said.
"We have to wait and see if we will finally agree
because assuming he could not agree with the Technical Committee, I can only
tell you we are working towards it 100%. As part of the official procedure, we
have written to the Bureau of Public Procurement and I don't think we will have
problems from them."
